Hello Mission friends
10-10-08
I know it's been a while since you heard from me. I have to
apologize for that but information is coming in very slow and until I visit
the site I will not have a lot to tell you. First let me tell you a few
things. Several people are not on the email list. Even when I speak to them
they tell me that they have not changed there email, only to find out they
have. So I am mailing this also, and ask that each of you are getting this
email. If not please go to our website at www.berkshiremission.org
and sign up for the newsletter. If you
do not have a email account please call me so that I can mail you all the
updates. This is important! Last time that I asked for you to do that I did
not get one response and found that there are at least 5 names of those who
regularly go on trips so please help with this.
Also to again mention the passing of a Dear Mission Friend,
Patricia Fay Haesche passed away on Thursday Aug 14th, 2008. She was also
known to a lot of us as the laundry lady. She will be surly missed. Please
keep George and family in your prayers.
As you remember Eric wrote last month to tell you a little bit
of the project in Guatemala. Dr Tim Bainum and Dr. Lopez through Gods
Helping Hands Inc. have taken on a medical/dental building project in
Machaquila(Peten Province). The area is quite rural in nature. Gods helping
Hands Inc. a non profit organization was set up about 10 years ago in Patsco
Washington by Elden Lopez M.D. and several other individuals. After
purchasing approximately 500 acres in a valley near Poptun, they built a
Quadra plex for resident personnel who would visit to work and stay in. They
built a warehouse and started to build the clinic. Then funds ran out and
other principals tired of the project, so Dr Lopez and Dr Bainum and his
wife Donna along with David Lopez C.P.A. assumed the corporation. So the
Bainum have invited Berkshire Mission to work on the Medical/ Dental and
better living portion so that they can get up and running. Much block work,
electrical and plumbing needs to be done. This clinic will fulfill a real
need in a catchment area of poor Guatemalans of about 40 thousand. Dr Bainum
and his mother have already invested over $70,000.00 in the project so we
believe it is viable. They will hire a full time Doctor and supplement with
groups from LLU and the USA on a regular basis.
There is a large orphanage near by run by International
Children's Care, approximately 1hour away is Tikal, The largest Ancient
ruined city of the Mayan civilization. Near by also a large river and
waterfall where we can swim and dive from ledges, and a large cave that
opens up to a underground river for a mile or so. Good for tubes to float
down the river with flashlights
Ok let's get to some facts. We will be making a deposit on the
airline Wednesday of this week. I told you that the trip will be
approximately 1300.00. Keep in mind that after my site visit this could
change. I will have more airline news within a week. Again those of you not
flying out of Hartford, your cost WILL be different.
This will be a great outreach project for our medical and dental
team as well as our construction workers.
I will need deposits right away of 250.00 each. Many of you have
written and called and expressed interest so get back to us right away. The
need for medicine, Bibles, and VBS supplies etc are always a large expense.
Another reason I am writing this is so I can thank a lot of you who have
supported Berkshire Mission in the past and have not received emails because
you have given to Berkshire Mission through friends etc. I wanted to thank
you all for your support. I have put all your names on this mailing list. I
hope you will take a moment and go to www.berkshiremission.org
and sign up for the newsletters that my
wife writes while we are there.
I guess this is very long so thank you all again, we could never provide
the services we do without each one of you. I would ask that each one of you
would pray and ask God what you can do for Berkshire Mission this year. I
need your Help. God Bless each one of you.
The dates we are working with the airlines for the best rates
are Feb 9th to Feb 24th. We will confirm these dates this week when we make
the deposit to the airlines. Again contact me as soon as possible to confirm
your reservation on this exciting trip.
More news soon
Sincerely
Bob Young
Mission Director
